The Long
Way Into the Trade

Alex’s grandfather started A-Z Home Services in Santa Paula, California in 1985 and moved it north to Bremerton six years later. Alex was on those job sites from age six, working summers and weekends with his grandfather and uncle Robert. He went to trade school for construction, planning to frame houses.

Framing did not work out. What followed was a stretch away from the tools, including two years on the phone with customers. He returned as a maintenance supervisor, decided he wanted one trade rather than a bit of everything, and picked plumbing in 2013.

He asks what is actually happening before he says what it costs. That is the phone years talking.

That stretch on the phone stuck. He asks what is actually going on before he says what it costs, and he lets you finish.

He spent the next decade in the trade, including years at a fifty employee shop running calls from Mount Vernon to Centralia, so he has plumbed both sides of the water. In 2022 he earned his own certification and opened his own company under his grandfather’s name, with the trade added to it.

His great aunt down the street heard the name and dug out one of grandpa’s old business cards. It is on Alex’s refrigerator now.

What Grandpa's Rules Look Like on a Job

Three rules came with the name, and you can tell within an hour whether he keeps them.

Options, not an ultimatum. There is more than one way to fix most plumbing problems, and the right one depends on your house and your budget. You get the choices with prices attached.

Everybody gets the same treatment. Rich or poor, a Bremerton rambler or a waterfront estate, the work and the manners are identical. Behind it sits the Done Right Guarantee: a full year covering labor as well as parts.

Leave it cleaner than you found it. Shoe covers at the door, drop cloths down, old units hauled off, floor wiped before we go. That is the Cleaner Than We Found It Promise, and Alex takes it past what the job asks:

“I’d rather you not know I’d been there, except the thing works now.” Alex Cady, Owner.

Who You'll
Actually Deal With

Certified residential specialty plumber, on the tools every day. Asked once whether he had a secretary, he said you’re looking at him. He built the hydro jetter the company runs rather than renting one.

Outside work, Alex bowls competitively and sponsors the Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association and Storm South Sound. He is in those leagues himself.

She handles scheduling, quoting, and paperwork so Alex can stay on the tools.
Alex is bringing someone up the way his grandfather brought him up, which he’ll tell you is his favorite part of the job.

Alex’s uncle, who started with grandpa in 1985 and has run his own company since 2002. Work moves both directions between them, which is why A to Z can quote a whole bathroom remodel rather than only the plumbing inside it.

Licensed,
Bonded, and Insured in Washington

Alex holds a Washington residential specialty plumber certificate (PL02), which covers all phases of plumbing in single family homes, duplexes, and apartment buildings up to three stories. It takes at least 6,000 documented hours under a certified plumber to earn.

A to Z is bonded and insured, and in four years no job has failed a city inspection. Inspectors do hand out the occasional correction, a strap in the wrong spot or similar, fixed on the visit. Across a decade in the trade, most of it before this company existed, Alex has personally installed more than a thousand water heaters.

One thing worth knowing, because the term gets used loosely: Washington does
not issue a “master plumber” certificate. The state certifies journey level and specialty plumbers, and that is the list. A to Z also holds no backflow tester certification, so annual assembly testing goes to a certified tester we work with.
