Plumber in Tacoma, WA

We are a peninsula company, so the honest answer about Tacoma is that we cover the north end and Ruston rather than the whole city. That is the part nearest the bridge and it is genuinely on our map. If you are further south or east, we would rather say so now than take the booking. Alex Cady works to a Washington residential plumbing certificate.

Which Part of |Tacoma We Cover|

The north end, Ruston, and the ground around Point Defiance. That is the corner of the city closest to the Narrows, and it is a short run for us from the Gig Harbor side where most of our Pierce County work already sits.

Deeper into the city we are simply not the right outfit, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. A plumber who has to cross the whole of Tacoma to reach you is not doing you a favour, whichever direction they are coming from.

What We Handle in |North Tacoma|

Given the age of the housing here, most work starts with sewer line repair on old side sewers and drain cleaning when one of them blocks.

Close behind: whole-house renewal under repiping and pipe repair, and replacements through traditional water heaters.

Then basements bring their own list, including sump pumps where water gets in, alongside leak detection for anything hidden, bathroom remodel plumbing where a layout is changing, plus emergency plumbing for whatever arrives unannounced.

What North |End Houses Are Like|

These are basements, not crawl spaces, and that changes almost everything. Most of what we work on across the water sits over a crawl space with everything above grade. Up here a great many houses have a full basement with a laundry, sometimes a bathroom, and fixtures sitting below the level of the sewer.

Anything below that line cannot drain by gravity. It goes into a sealed basin and gets lifted, which means a pump doing a job that nothing in a crawl space house has to do. When that pump stops there is no slow warning, and a finished basement is a much less forgiving place for it to happen than a crawl space would be.

Everything here is on city sewer, which is a change from the rest of our map. Sixteen of the towns we cover run largely on septic. Tacoma does not, so a backup is about your side sewer rather than a tank, and the line from the house to the main is old clay in a great many of these properties. Roots at the joints and settlement over a century do what they always do.

The grid is tight and the alleys matter. Houses sit close, lots are narrow, and where a truck can stand relative to where the work is often decides how a day runs. On a block with alley access that is straightforward; without it, less so.

Areas We Work in |Tacoma|

Ruston next to the park, Point Defiance at the top, Old Town down on the water, the Proctor District, the wider North End, and Westgate toward the north edge.

Those are the parts we genuinely cover. Ask about anywhere else and you will get a plain answer instead of a stretch.

Getting |to You|

7am to 7pm on weekdays, and nothing on the weekend. Some daily capacity stays free for the unplanned, and north Tacoma work usually sits on a day that already has Gig Harbor or Fox Island on it.

You get a window, a price settled before work starts, and a full year covering parts and labour. Floors sheeted, and the space handed back clean, which in a finished basement is worth saying.

Questions From |North Tacoma Homeowners|

“We tell you the price before we start, give you options instead of an ultimatum.”
Alex Cady, Owner
Do you cover all of Tacoma?

No, and we would rather be clear about it. We work the north end, Ruston, and the Point Defiance area, which is the corner closest to the bridge and a short run from our Gig Harbor work. If your address is further into the city, tell us where and we will say honestly whether it is one we should take.

Usually, yes. Fixtures below the level of the sewer drain into a sealed basin and a pump lifts the waste up to where gravity takes over. If the pump has failed, nothing below grade will drain regardless of how clear the pipes are. That is the first thing to check before anyone starts cabling lines.

On houses of this age the line to the main is often clay, laid in short lengths with a joint every few feet. Roots find the joints, and a century of settlement puts dips and offsets into a line that was straight when it went in. Putting a camera down settles which of those is happening, and that in turn settles whether the line gets cleared or replaced.

Frequently, the city is the authority rather than the county, which differs from most of our map. Before quoting anything requiring sign-off we check what the city wants for your address, instead of carrying over the arrangement we use elsewhere.

It affects how the day runs more than whether the job can be done. Where the truck can stand decides what comes off it and how much carrying is involved. Let us know at booking whether there is alley access or a driveway, and the visit runs better for it.

First thing is the main, closed, because that caps the damage at whatever it already is. Then message us. We work Monday to Friday so someone will be out at the start of the week. In a finished basement the shut-off matters even more than usual, because there is more below the waterline to ruin.
